Skyjack Safety
According to Skyjack, the scissor lift is a type of specialized industrial machine used specifically for positioning employees, their equipment and their tools. Anyone who is getting ready to operate this type of machinery needs to familiarize themselves with the suggested operational and safety procedures recommended by the manufacturer in order to stay safe before trying to use this particular machine. It could be devastating to the operator themselves and any bystanders causing severe injuries if the safety recommendations are not followed.
Area
In the best situation, scissor lifts work at optimum levels on totally level ground. The area needs to be inspected and cleared of any loose debris prior to driving a scissor lift over a particular terrain. In order to lower the possibility of the scissor lift tipping over and probably causing the driver to fall from his seat. It is better to avoid holes or steep grades while operating. Bystanders should also remain aware and avoid the operating scissor lift in order to make certain that they do not get run over.
Inspection
Before attempting to use a scissor lift, the user should carefully inspect all the integral components of the machinery. The operator can see if all the parts are functioning properly before the task is initiated, a functional test is done while the lift is retracted. It is recommended to complete a daily check on this equipment prior to the shift starting and some places even want an inspection to happen at the end of the shift also. Different companies have various rules in place to maintain safety.
Checking the tires must be part of the inspection. These parts obviously add to the movability of the scissor lift and also provide the machine with a solid foundation. A faulty or worn tire could blow and throw the operator from their place on top of scissor lift.
