Different Classes of Aerial Lift

Aerial lifts are a specialized type of heavy machine which enables workers to be raised into the air. These equipment could be used to perform maintenance and repairs in places that are high up in the air such as on roofs, near power lines and street-light fixtures. Like nearly all tools, there are different types of aerial lifts which can be utilized to complete a variety of jobs. For the utmost safety, every kind of different kind of machine requires proper training and specific qualifications before operation.

Scissor Lifts

Genie lifts are another name for scissor lifts. These machines are the most basic type of aerial lift available. These lifts are made of a platform that is lifted up using pneumatic power and are mainly used indoors. Normally, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When completely compressed, these scissor lifts could be driven similar to large carts. Normally, when the platform is extended, they are not able to be driven for safety reasons. Before anyone can use these devices, employees have to be certified as operators.

Boom Lifts

Compared to a scissor lift, boom lifts are a lot more complex pieces of aerial lift machinery. A boom lift has a wide base in order to keep the lift anchored. It utilizes a jointed arm that has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box situated in the bucket which allows the operator to raise and lower the bucket. As the arm of the boom is jointed, it could also move from side to side. The boom lift resembles a tail of a metal scorpion. Usually, it is used in construction applications outdoors. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to operate than scissor lifts, therefore, operators need to be licensed separately for these kinds of lifts.
