Tower Crane Parts
Some of the most remarkable structures throughout the world are made utilizing cranes. The newer cranes are utilized to be able to reach higher heights. Tower cranes offer the means to transport and raise tools, building parts and materials all over a construction site. There are various parts which assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together utilizes different pieces of construction machines.
Base
Usually, the base of a tower crane is made from a steel unit. The base is connected to a custom-designed concrete pad. This type of set-up gives the structure stability. Overall, the construction must be well engineered and built so as to operate at optimum safety.
Mast
The mast on the tower crane provides the machine with its overall height. The mast is built out of individual steel sections that are connected together. The amount of sections determines the height of the crane. Typically, a tower crane has a design which allows the mast to grow during construction by adding more parts as the building process goes on. This way the crane's height can be specified, making sure that it has enough height to carry out the required work efficiently and safely.
Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is situated above the mast. This unit houses the machinery and the motor which allows the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of equipment that enables the mast to grow. The top climber sits just below the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams in the top climber allow the slewing unit to be detached from the mast by raising it higher.
Boom
The term "boom", refers to the tower crane's working arm. The boom is made up of separate steel parts that are attached together, extending out from the top of the slewing unit and parallel to the ground. There is a trolley attached to the base that could extend the length of the boom. This particular trolley has the hoisting mechanism.
